Jury Duty

Part of my jury selection questioning today.

“So you’re from Bolivia…Boliv…”
“Bolivar, Missouri.”
“Near St. Louis?”
“Not really. It’s in the southwest part of the state..”
“Near where Truman lived? Independence, right?”
“Nope. Independence is near Kansas City.”
“I hear Truman used to sit on his porch and yell at people on his porch? After his presidency?”
[Pause.]
“Um, I can’t verify that.”
The other lawyer laughs.

I was dismissed.
